This page is provided to help you understand the how and why of software maintenance subscriptions.

Why have a software maintenance subscription

Let's face it. Sales of OS/2 or eComStation have been pretty low volume in recent years. This makes it very hard for software developers to continue work on maintaining a product.

A software maintenance subscription has the following advantages

  • No more software upgrades to pay for. Your subscription pays for those.
  • Easier software maintenance. Just run "Check for updates" regularly.
  • More subscriptions = more improvements. If time is spent improving a product, someone has to pay for it.
  • Greater longevity. If the developer survives, the product survives. It's that simple.
  • Room for manouevre. Software subscription can help to pave the way for new OS/2 code and programs.
  • A Free One Year Subscription, for everyone who buys a new license.

How do I buy a subscription

The software maintenance subscription weblink is deliberately not shown anywhere on this site. The reason is that the web page is reserved for those who have downloaded and installed Maul Publisher for OS/2. The web link allows you to register a subscription, and it is in nobodys interest to make this web page available to web crawlers, network attacks, or whatever.

You can always install the latest full version of Maul Publisher over an existing installation. If you have not done so, do it now. Once the installation is complete, go to Maul Publishers 'Help' menu, and click on 'Check for updates...'. If you do not have an active subscription, that should be sufficient to open the subscription web page.

Subscription weblink image Alternatively, find the subscription web link on the Desktop. Normally, the weblink is found under 'Programs', 'Desktop Publisher'.

The link 'Software maintenance subscription' is shown highlighted in the adjacent image.

Maul Publisher, and the installer, update this web link dynamically to reflect your current subscription status.

If you have never used web link object in OS/2, you might like to take the opportunity to open the properties of this object, and select your favourite browser before opening it.

Using the web link, you should find a table of zip files available for download. Some of these files will only be visible while your subscription is valid. Alternatively, running 'Check for updates...' from Maul Publisher as described above, will download and install the available updates.

Your software maintenance subscription will buy me time. Time to work on new features. Time to fix bugs. Time to keep Maul Publisher as good as I can get it. Hopefully, I can fulfill your needs for a long time into the future.

Thank you very much.
